We’re going to do an activity to help the connectors between our brains and our bodies.

Just start stomping left and right, left and right, keeping a nice even tempo.

Now step forward and back, keeping the same tempo.

Add clap on beat two.

Now, start looking right and left.  How’s it feeling?  Keep it up! Breathe! There’s more to come!

Now add a little bounce in your body as you step.

OK, shake your hands double time in between your clap.

Last step: recite your name, home address, phone number, email address, usernames, and what you want for your birthday in rhythm.  When you’re done, bring your movement to a close, and take deep breaths until everyone is silent and still.

Again:  name, home address, phone number, email address, usernames, and what you want for your birthday. Stop talking. Stop moving. Take deep breaths.

 And – go!

Notes:
Here are the suggested rhythms for each body part. Blue notes what beats participants should move on. (In the book I explain the basics of western music notation and structure and notate everything in this format.)

Remember, by the end all of these things are happening at the same time!

BODY PART COUNT  COUNT COUNT COUNT
stomp one two three four
clap one two three four
head one two three four
hands one-and two-and three-and four-and
Extend:
Discussion questions:

What was the easiest part of this activity for you? What was the most challenging part? How would you modify this activity?
